Sumida Inductors Showcase Its Wire Winding & Magnetic Design Technology

Sumida has recently developed and expanded several series of surface-mounted power inductors that apply its expertise in wire winding and magnetic design technology to enable improved product development in electronics and automotive markets.

Sumida inductor with resin-filled coil

One group is a series of inductors with resin-filled coils. By filling the winding wire with resin containing magnetic material, the magnetic shield effect and the mechanical impact strength is significant, says the company. Applications included DC/DC conversion in notebook PCs, smartphones and displays. The product size range is wide including eight groups.

High-temperature inductor with Ni-Zn ferrite technology

Another group is its high-temperature series of power inductors that utilize Sumida’s Ni-Zn ferrite core technology.  This series of high temperature shielded drum and ring core inductors for automotive applications was introduced In early 2019. Sumida has since been expanded the family to a total of six package sizes. The smallest measures 5.3 x 5.6 x 3.0 mm and the largest is 13.1 x 12.8 x 8.0 mm. Inductances range from 0.8 to 1000uH.

A key feature is that the Ni-Zn ferrite core technology and a special geometric construction allow the inductors to be highly space-efficient with superior DC resistance and saturation current performance, says the company. They are suitable for an array of high-reliability applications such as driver assistance systems, LED headlight circuits, navigation and infotainment systems as well as hybrid engine controls.
