Calnetix Technologies, a pioneer in high-speed permanent magnet motor generators, power electronics and magnetic bearings for a variety of applications and industries, has announced Patrick McMullen as its CTO.
McMullen rejoins the company that he helped found after serving as CTO for Vycon, Inc., a manufacturer of flywheels for backup power, energy storage and regeneration applications.
“Pat was responsible for our high-speed motor generator and magnetic bearing projects for the first five years of Calnetix’s existence when he served as Vice President. He developed the original flywheel system concept here, and also led IP creation activities, development of larger size and higher output units as well as cost reduction efforts,” said Vatche Artinian, chairman and CEO of Calnetix. “We’re very happy to have him back in this new executive role as we experience continued rapid business and technology growth in a wide range of markets.”
Prior to founding Calnetix, McMullen served as vice president of Research and Development at Avcon, Inc, a development company for magnetic bearings and linear motors. In total, he has more than 25 years of experience in the magnetic devices field for high speed equipment with more than 20 years of experience in the magnetic bearing field. McMullen has developed and holds patents for multiple magnetic bearing actuator designs as well as system-level motor and flywheel designs. He also has authored numerous papers on magnetic bearings, backup bearings and flywheels.
McMullen will continue to serve as a director on Calnetix’s Board of Directors. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
