Leonardo DRS Delivers Electric Propulsion for New Military Vessels
As navies aggressively electrify their fleets, defense contractor Leonardo DRS is supplying a growing roster of permanent-magnet systems for both hybrid-electric and full-electric propulsion. In recent programs, the systems are coming aboard both new underwater and surface vessels of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Superconducting Magnets Built by Tokamak Energy for Fusion Power
Creating clean, sustainable fusion energy requires strong magnetic fields to confine and control the extremely hot, positively-charged hydrogen fuel, which becomes a plasma several times hotter than the sun. Now, Tokamak Energy in the UK has built a world-first set of new generation high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets to be assembled and tested in fusion power plant scenarios.

Better Magnets for Green Energy
Conventional soft magnets currently used in industry are susceptible to damage under heavy mechanical stress. Scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Iron Research (MPIE), Technische Universität Darmstadt and Central South University, China, have developed a new design strategy that increases the service life of soft magnetic materials and enables high-tech applications such as high-speed motors.

High-Current & High-Voltage Sensing by Dewesoft for Today’s Testing Needs
Motivated to develop a new current sensing technology using the best possible properties of a gap-less magnetic core and a single core construction as in single-core closed loop transducers, Slovenian test and measurement specialist Dewesoft has developed a new DC/AC flux sensor embedded into a magnetic core that does not alter the superb properties of high-permeability magnetic materials.
