AVX Corp. has released its new TCH series hermetically sealed tantalum polymer chip capacitors for aerospace and other high-reliability applications. Featuring conductive polymer electrodes, TCH series capacitors exhibit very low ESR and low derating capabilities in addition to high ripple current, high capacitance (1.5 to 680 µF), and the highest voltages (10 to 100 V) of any space-grade SMD tantalum polymer capacitor currently available on the market.
“The TCH series was initially developed for a mission-critical European Space Agency application that required both extremely high capacitance and very low ESR, which tantalum polymer technology is particularly well-suited for,” said Allen Mayar, product marketing manager at AVX. “Having overcome the material’s sensitivity to the combination of high temperature and high humidity by hermetically sealing the capacitor in a ceramic SMD case filled with inert gas, which eliminates humidity and oxidative degeneration, AVX now offers the highest voltage space-grade SMD tantalum polymer capacitors on the market.”
Hermetically sealed in ceramic cases filled with inert gasses to eliminate material and performance degradation resulting from exposure to high temperature, high humidity, and ambient atmosphere, TCH series capacitors exhibit improved performance stability in aerospace and other high-reliability applications, as well as enable a significant payload reduction for power supplies.
Housed in large CTC-21D cases, AVX’s TCH series hermetically sealed tantalum polymer chip capacitors provide high capacitance values, spanning 1.5µF to 680µF, and high rated voltages, spanning 10 to 100 V. Rated for use in temperatures ranging from -55°C to 125°C, TCH series capacitors weigh 2.4 g each and are available with either J-lead or standard under-tab terminations. Dimensions for TCH series capacitors with J-leads are: 11.8 mm by 12.5 mm by 5.8 mm. Dimensions for TCH series capacitors with under-tab terminations are: 11 mm by 12.5 mm by 5.45 mm.
