High-speed electric drives are becoming increasingly important in modern industrial and scientific applications—from turbo compressors and blowers to turbo expanders and high-speed spindles. To meet these requirements, Celeroton has completely overhauled an earlier model frequency converter, CC-230-3500, for the operation of permanent magnet synchronous motors and brushless DC motors with a new version designed for extreme speed, even in cryogenic environments.
At the core of the new model is a high-performance control platform optimized for ultra-high-speed electric machines. The system enables sensorless closed-loop speed control from 7,000 rpm up to 500,000 rpm, eliminating the need for additional hall sensors or encoders in the motor while maintaining a stable operation.
With a maximum output power of 3.5 kW and maximum output phase current of 15 Arms (fundamental component), it provides ample performance for a wide range of high-speed motor applications. Both speed control and torque control modes are supported, allowing users to adapt the drive behavior to their specific system requirements.
To accommodate a broad range of motor designs, it allows user-definable setup for motor parameters. There is an enhanced four-wire motor temperature measurement interface for precise monitoring of motor temperatures, a particularly valuable feature for turbo expander systems in cryogenic environments where accurate temperature measurement is critical.

Based in Volketswil, Switzerland in the Zurich area, Celeroton develops and manufactures ultra-high-speed drives, turbocompressors and converters, also magnetic bearing choppers. See www.celeroton.com.
