Standex Electronics, a global electronics component manufacturer, has extended its line of ultraminiature surface mount (SMD) reed sensors with the introduction of the new MK31 Series. Featuring a powerful, ultraminiature design that is 20% smaller than the competition, the MK31 Series is capable of switching a minimum of 50 million reliable operations in a wide variety of low-power and space-limited applications.
“As portable electronic devices, handhelds, and even wearables continue to get smaller, so too does the demand for smaller electronic components that utilize smarter and more power-efficient designs,” said Martin Reizner, Product Manager Sensors EMEA. “The new MK31 Series meets this demand, utilizing a compact, efficient and durable design that can perform millions of reliable operations. Furthermore, the unique design of the MK31 Series also eliminates the need for an external power source. This is especially important as power efficiency has become more demanding in today’s electronics.”
In addition to a long switching life, this tiny sensor is also physically robust. The MK31 Series has no wearing parts and is environmentally rugged inside and out. Inside the sensor is a hermetically sealed reed switch. On the outside, it is over-molded with an externally durable thermoset plastic. This rugged design allows the MK31 Series to outlast mechanical switches. Additionally, the MK31 Series features a smooth, flat surface and J-lead design that makes it highly suitable for automatic PCB placement. This reed sensor also has the ability to effectively sense from up to 44 mm away.
The MK31 Series is available in two lead designs, J-bend and Gull-wing, and an overmolded package integrated with the Standex 3.95 mm KSK-1A04 switch model.
