Exxelia Showcases Smart Integrated Magnetics in Growing Power Electronics Portfolio

Paris-based Exxelia has been showcasing advancements in its Smart Integrated Magnetics line and its growing power electronics portfolio at key technology events recently across Europe and — leveraging its recent acquisition of SVM – at Electronica India 2025 held in Bangalore on September 17-19.

At the International Paris Air Show, held in June in Le Bourget, Exxelia presented its latest innovations designed for power electronics in the aerospace, space and defense sectors, notably its smart integrated magnetics and MML film capacitors. The company’s smart integrated magnetics products combine the functions of inductor and transformer into a single compact component, contributing to systems miniaturization and mass reduction.

They are designed to minimize losses, achieving efficiencies above 99% even at high operating frequencies (10 kHz to 500 kHz). Their compatibility with advanced silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors enables the design of more compact and lighter power converters. The technology offers a wide range of inductance values with high accuracy.

At PCIM, held in Nuremberg in May, among the new developments on display were two integrated magnetics solutions specifically designed for Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converters operating at high power and frequency. The devices achieve high efficiency through optimized magnetic coupling and reduced volume.

Designed for 5kVA power conversion, the lower power unit features controlled leakage inductance and supports high switching frequencies (up to 100kHz), providing significant size and weight savings.

Targeting higher power applications up to 25kVA, the other version maintains excellent thermal management, minimized core losses, and compact design suitable for demanding power conversion systems. The product ensures reliable operation in environments where space and efficiency are critical.

Leveraging its recent acquisition of SVM Private Ltd, as previously reported in Magnetics Magazine, Exxelia took part in Electronica India for the first time this year. SVM specializes in the design and manufacturing of magnetic components and busbars for healthcare and industrial end-markets. It is particularly noted for its magnetics dedicated to medical imaging applications, where it designs and manufactures high-performance transformers and inductors for MRI, CT and X-Ray equipment. Now, these technologies and products are being integrated into the full Exxelia portfolio.

The magnetics portfolio at SVM includes high-frequency transformers (20–50 kHz, up to 120 kW, 1–2 kV) for MRI power supplies, linear power transformers up to 20 kVA for distribution units, and (coupled) inductors (up to 500A and 100 kHz) for power amplifiers. These products are complemented by high-level sub-assemblies combining transformers and inductors in integrated racks. It maintains in-house expertise in litz wire production, epoxy resin vacuum casting, precision machining, and custom bobbin design, ensuring reliability for applications in MRI power supplies, CT high-voltage tanks, and X-Ray beam focusing systems.
