Bridgeport Magnetics Group, a manufacturer of custom toroidal transformer solutions since 1982, has been acquired. The transaction took place in January. The new owner, Michael Ryan, now serves as president and CEO of the company, which continues as a vertically integrated manufacturer at its 45,000 sq ft facility in Shelton, Connecticut.

Under the new ownership, the company reports that it is investing heavily in domestic production capacity with a focus on higher kVA toroidal transformers — up to 70kVA 1PH, 350kVA 3PH. The previous leaders Ulrik Paulsen, formerly CEO, and Sandu Pescaru, formerly CTO, are both still working with the company in advisory roles.
“We’re standing at a real inflection point with the electric grid. The surge in power demand is exposing the limits of infrastructure that was never built for this scale or speed of change,” said Ryan. “At Bridgeport Magnetics, our vision is to play a meaningful role in what comes next – advancing toroidal transformer technology to deliver the higher efficiency, power density, and reliability that microgrids and modern power infrastructure will need as we move toward a cleaner, more distributed energy future.”
“Innovation is at the heart of Bridgeport Magnetics. We continuously push the boundaries of toroidal transformer design by developing specialized equipment and processes in-house – delivering higher efficiency, superior thermal performance, and greater reliability, even at larger power ratings. Our custom solutions serve demanding applications in medical, marine, datacenter, utility, and renewable-energy markets. As the grid evolves, we remain focused on reimagining what toroidal technology can achieve – creating compact, high-performance magnetics that help build a more resilient electrical infrastructure.”
Diverse product portfolio
The company’s product portfolio includes toroidal and isolation transformers, inductors, cores and specialty magnetics. The operations include its Alpha-Core, Tortran and Goertz Audio business units.

Among its diverse products are the Laminax line of copper foil laminates, available with polyester film or high-temperature polyimide film, which were developed specifically for high-performance cuffed foil shielding and electrostatic shielding in toroidal and custom-wound transformers. Unlike some products that are limited to PET constructions, Laminax is especially strong in polyimide-copper laminates for elevated-temperature, high-reliability, and tightly specified designs. PET-copper laminates are also available for standard-temperature and cost-optimized windings.
Laminax delivers custom-engineered shielding laminates in cuffed, enclosed, fringed, and specialized bonding configurations that integrate cleanly into automated winding processes. They are
used in medical isolation transformers, audio power transformers, high-performance custom magnetics, power electronics, and precision test equipment where reliable electrostatic shielding, clean signal integrity and efficient production are essential.
