Getting ready to launch a new electrical steel manufacturing plant in France, ArcelorMittal has recently made upgrades to its electrical steel product line including higher polarization and coating features along with improved low-loss grades for e-traction.
Its latest developments in non-oriented electrical steels (NOES) include upgraded high polarization grades, self-bonding varnish coating solutions and high-specification low-loss iCARe 420Save grades for e-traction, according to Charlotte Daugu, Sales Director of Electrical Steels, ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products. She highlighted the developments as the company prepared for showcasing them at Coiltech Italia, to be held September 17-18 in Pordenone.
“Following our recent conversations with customers, we are ready to present developments and offering aligned with their needs, to deliver the innovation and efficiency required in the rapidly evolving electrical steel and e-mobility markets,” said Daugu. “The upcoming launch of our new electrical steels plant at Mardyck in France, alongside our existing Saint-Chély-d’Apcher facility, will significantly increase our electrical steels production capacity – delivering our customers greater capacity and certainty of supply, together with the deep technical expertise of our global R&D and customers technical and service support teams.”
The plants are located in northern France near Dunkirk. Representing an investment of investment of more than €300 million, the new unit in Mardyck has a 200,000-ton production capacity.
The latest high polarisation grades with higher yield strength, M330P-50A and M470P-65A, have been designed for increased performance and efficiency in motors and generators. Both conventional and rapid self-bonding varnishes are included in the company’s new production coating capabilities. The next generation of iCARe 420Save grades will come onstream in 2026, extending down to 0.2mm gauge and offering the lowest magnetic loss combined with high strength.
“In addition to the new products, we will take the opportunity of the fair to present our new tailor-made services offering, which brings together a series of supply chain initiatives, focused on generating added value for our customers,” noted Eric Vasseur, Technical and Service Director for Electrical Steels, ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products.
