Bridgeport Magnetics Group Inc. has introduced a new line of dry-type single-phase and three-phase low voltage (<600 VAC) high power transformers from 5,000 VA to 50,000 VA used individually or grouped together in Marina Substations and industrial distribution applications with power ratings up to 200 KVA single phase and 150 KVA in three phase configuration.
The three-phase transformers include input/output voltages 480 VAC Delta to 208V Y/120V, 240V/120V at 60Hz or 1:1 ratios. Primary taps are optional.
For Marina Substations the transformers are housed inside sleek enclosures of 316L stainless steel. With considerable weight savings of 30 percent from using toroidal power transformers instead of the conventional stacked lamination type, these Marina Substations are particularly suited for installation on floating docks. Other brands of a typical 50 KVA substation with conventional transformers weigh around 400 lbs. With BMG’s power toroids, the weight is less than 275 Lbs.
Other applications include industrial distribution transformers where the lower weight and dimensions facilitates both transportation and installation.
In addition to weight and size reduction the toroidal transformer design offers low no-load losses meeting NEMA premium guidelines. In addition, toroidal power transformers generate lower operating temperature and 15 to 30 percent higher efficiency than the conventional type because of its construction with the copper windings covering the entire core area.
Bridgeport Magnetics Group Inc. has entered an exclusive agreement with Marina Electric Equipment Company Inc. in Williamsburg, VA for the supply of toroidal transformers installed in Marina substations. For all other applications, e.g. industrial distribution transformers, the line of high power transformers is available directly from the factory in Shelton, CT.
