AVX Extends SMPS Capacitor Offering with New MIL-PRE QPL Approval

Jan22_AVXAVX Corp. has received T-Level MIL-PRF-49470 qualification approval for its 25 V, unencapsulated, BX characteristic (X7R dielectric), horizontally stacked SMPS capacitors in case sizes 1-6. The new components further expand AVX’s already extensive offering of BX characteristic SMPS capacitors listed on the MIL-PRF-49470 QPL, which now includes 25 V, 50 V, and 100 V encapsulated and unencapsulated styles with both high reliability T-Level qualification for space applications and standard reliability B-Level qualification (similar to DSCC 87106) for military, harsh environment and high voltage applications.

Featuring a capacitance range of 1.5 µF to 390 µF and rated for -55°C to 125°C, AVX’s B- and T-Level BX characteristic SMPS capacitors are well suited for I/O filtering and bulk storage in a wide range of applications, including: military defense and weapons systems; space and satellite communications; telecom switching, networking, and base stations; DC/DC power converters; high voltage medical electronics and industrial equipment; down hole drilling and oil exploration equipment; and alternative and hybrid energy vehicles.

“AVX has the most extensive QPL listing of standard and high-reliability SMPS capacitors in both encapsulated and unencapsulated styles and in a broad range of voltage and temperature characteristics, making them suitable for use in a wide variety of military, space, and other harsh environment applications,” said Patrick Hollenbeck, applications engineer at AVX. “In fact, AVX MIL-PRF-49470 SMPS capacitors are the leading solution for I/O filter capacitors in military switch mode power supplies.”

SpiCalci 8.0 SPICE modeling software, which helps design engineers validate circuits before they are built by allowing them to simulate frequency performance plots and other data for specific AVX components, is available for the full offering of BX characteristic SMPS capacitors approved on the MIL-PRF-49470 QPL.
