Signal Transformer has launched a series of surface mount transformers for power over ethernet (PoE) applications. They employ flyback topology where, typically, energy is stored in the magnetic field of the transformer during the first half of the switching cycle, then released to the secondary windings connected to the load in the second half of the cycle.
