Magnetics Design Tool for Power Applications
By Mauricio Esguerra, Dipl. Phys. • Mauricio Esguerra Consulting on behalf of Hengdian Group DMEGC Magnetics Co., Ltd
Predicting the behavior of soft magnetic cores under realistic circuit application conditions allows making an optimum material and core selection. This requires visualizing material data of soft magnetic materials, as well as calculating core parameters such as inductance, core losses, transferable power and EMI suppression as well as associated basic winding design parameters. <read more>

NASA Spacecraft in Earth’s Orbit, Preparing to Study Magnetic Reconnection
Following a successful launch, NASA’s four Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) spacecraft are positioned in Earth’s orbit to begin the first space mission dedicated to the study of a phenomenon called magnetic reconnection. This process is thought to be the catalyst for some of the most powerful explosions in our solar system. <read more>
NIST’s MRI Measurement Tools to Help Diagnose Veterans’ Traumatic Brain Injuries
More than 300,000 US veterans have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury (TBI) in recent years, a legacy of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. While severe TBI can be obvious, milder cases involving symptoms such as memory loss or inability to concentrate are difficult to confirm and treat. Advanced imaging of the microscopic motion of water molecules in the brain shows promise for detecting these subtle injuries. A new study of TBI using this diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique will get a quality control boost from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which has been working in collaboration with other organizations for nearly a decade to improve quantitative measures for MRI.* <read more>
